The 2011 Free Agent Auction begins tonight at 8PM ET! The auction will be conducted via a Google Docs spreadsheet featuring the top free agent batters and pitchers. soon.

Once the auction begins, no names may be added to the list. Additionally, team rosters will be frozen meaning no players may be dropped or added. Trades may still be conducted provided neither team exceeds the salary cap.

This evening owners will receive invites to edit the spreadsheet and the auction officially will be underway. If you can't log in on Google Docs you may place your bids via email to the commissioner.

Notes on the spreadsheet:
-The player list is composed of the top 400 batters and 550 pitchers based on ESPN’s “Cheat Sheet.” The dollar value assigned to the player is ESPN’s “Cheat Sheet” price and not a required opening bid
Owner $$ Available: This is the total cash an owner has available to spend during the auction
Maximum Bid: The highest bid an owner may place on a single player (May not be exceeded)
Open Roster Slots: The maximum number of players an owner may bid on (May not be exceeded)
-There are four tabs..."Auction," "Bid Status." "Rosters," and "Formulas"
-Owners will use only the "Auction" tab when placing bids (Place bids under your team column)
-The "Bid Status" tab will show the time remaining before a player is sold (Updated by Commish)
-The "Rosters" shows your team rosters and cash balances (Updated by Commish)
-"Formulas" (Updated by Commish)
-Please do not use "$" signs on the spreadsheet
-Please bid whole numbers (Ex: 1, not 1.01)

Auction Rules:
-Bids must be placed in your team’s column only
-The spreadsheet must not be altered in any way other than by bidding
-Bids must be placed in $1 increments
-Bids may be emailed to the Commissioner
-All bids are time stamped
-Bids submitted via email will be posted using the time received in the Commissioner’s Inbox
-Biding ends when a high bid has stood for 48 hours
-If the high bidder changes or alters his bid, the 48-hour clock resets
-Owners must not exceed the “$$ Available,” “Maximum Bid” or “Open Roster Slots”
-Owners are not required to fill all roster vacancies, but the “Maximum Bid” must not be exceeded

Notes: Owners will receive twice daily emails showing all players who’ve received bids and the time remaining in their auctions. The emails will end once the owner has depleted his cash or filled his roster slots.

Invites go out tonight! Enjoy the auction and good luck!

-Commish
